12 of 12 (5) - JANUARY 2010

First of all: A happy New Year 2010 to all of you! I hope it's a healthy, successful and blessed year for everybody.

It's a new year of 12 of 12 pictures. And it's probably going to be Chad's last year of hosting the challenge. It was his ideas and you can check his blog for the master list of 12 of 12. Thank you Chad, for having had this brilliant idea!

This is going to be one of the not so exciting 12 of 12, which - I admit - I've had quite a few of in the 3-something years that I've participated in this challenge. I would have liked to go out since there is a lot of snow, which would have made for some beautiful winter pictures. But I am on sick leave from work due to a sinus infection and mild laryngitis, so I decided not to brave the cold and rather stay inside where it's warm and snuggly. And there was some paperwork to work on. Diego helped me as much as he could. So, buckle up and brace yourselves for

A Day in the Home Office with Christin and Diego.

It's the 12th of January - time to open another black circle on my...

...beautiful and creative daily door calendar.

Diego is taking his morning shower and...

really doesn't like to be disturbed, much less photographed while doing it, cf. his very stern face.

A morningly look out the balcony reveals: It's still white outside and my former Christmas tree is still very much snowed in.

Before Diego get a grip on all this paperwork, we decided to spend some time playing. Thought I'd include some video evidence for all those who are interested.

Post-playtime still life.

Now to get back to the paperwork. Diego is ready to jump in!

Lunchbreak - bagel with delicious toppings and one of the oranges for dessert. When you're sick you don't have much inclination let alone energy to be creative in the kitchen...

Diego needs to sleep off the first wave of paperwork.

Took out the trash and saw that there's still not been any development in the driveway. In this house, we do have a service that is supposed to clear it from all the snow. But where is everybody? I had to park my car outside - it's the one of which you can see a bit of the front - since I wasn't able to drive on my regular and paid for parking space last night because of all the snow. *hammer*

Back to some more paperwork. I'm organizing a choir trip to England this April and we're going to sing in St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Just need to make sure we're still booked and everything's going in the right direction.

Diego is ready to join back in on the paperworking. But it seems he is too tired to concentrate and rather sleeps some more on some folders.

Apparently, this year we're back to bonus pictures for our 12 of 12s. I didn't know that before seeing Helen's 12 of 12, so I didn't really plan anything fancy. But I had one more photo and thought I'd include it. So, let's have Chuck say the final words of today:

"Mmh..."

12 of 12 (4) - DECEMBER 2009

It's time for this year's Christmas themed 12 of 12! I took a stroll around the city and over our several Christmas markets today, so this 12 of 12 really is all about Christmas. :) I'm also bending the rules a little (again) - I took so many pictures today and couldn't narrow it down to only 12, so I'm posting a few more than that. ^_^

12 of 12 is the brainchild of Chad. See his blog for further details and everyone else's 12 of 12.

Here we go!

1) 07:31 and 07:34
Opening today's Christmas calendar treat. :)

2) 08:16
Diego wasn't very nice to me this morning - he started meowing in front of my bedroom door at 5:45. I tried to ignore him for a while and he did stop. But he started back up around 7. I gave up then. :D Well, he was certainly up to no good afterwards...

3) 13:35
Had a choir rehearsal in the morning and afterwards decided to take a stroll through the city and visit all the Christmas markets with a friend. On our way to one of them we came by this guy who was singing in the street. He wasn't too bad but his whole performance lacked a little enthousiasm. His eyes were closed most of the time and the accompanying background music came from his cell phone, which must have been turned up to maximum volume. :D Well, we had some fun listerning to him.

4) 15:04
At the main Christmas market of Dresden. This is a view to the Frauenkirche with a Pyramid next to it.

5) 15:07
They've reorganized the structure of the market and it actually is very nice. They also added some kind of podium from where you can see tje whole market. Looks nice, doesn't it?

So many people on their feet today... :o

6) 16:04
One of Dresden's cinemas. I like the building.

7) Sometime between 16:00 and 16:30...
More Christmas market details. :)

The Christmas stollen is what Dresden is quite famous for, so there are usually hundreds of stands where they are sold...

8) 16:33
On my way home in the tram...

9) 16:49
Diego must not have liked me being gone for so long. This is his "How dare you let me alone?!?"-pose, which was accompanied by a heart-wernching meow. :D

10) 17:38
A can of hot citrus tea - exactly what I needed after wandering around in ice-cold weather.

11) 20:51
Diego is sleepy...

12) 20:54
... and I'm watching "E.T."

I think this is it.

Have a lovely Advent season and a very merry Christmas everyone!

*hugs*

12 OF 12 (4) - NOVEMBER 2009

Hello again!

I had to skip the October 12 of 12 and the reasons would be too complicated to explain. Nothing bad happened to me, it's just that I was not at all in the mood to care about picture taking let alone posting them.

But now here I am, refreshed and energized. :) And one of the reasons is featured in this 12 of 12. You'll meet Diego, my 14 weeks old black-white Persian cat who's been a very lovely roomie since I got him a little more than two weeks ago.

As always, credit goes to Chad for this wonderful project idea. Go to his blog for all the other 12 of 12s from people all around the world.

Here we go!

1) 07:38
A Diego in the house replaces the alarm clock. At 7:24 am he started meowing, telling me to get up and play with him. This is his "play with me" face.

2) 08:02am
And this is his "feed me" pose. Poor chair. It's one of his favorite chewing objects.

3) 08:03
Well, the human needs food, too.

4) 08:03
It seems like Diego doesn't like watching humans eat. He turned the cold shoulder and watched the birdies outside instead.

5) 08:26
Lunch bag for work is all packed.

6) Something around 11:00...
Spent most of the day preparing grading lists for our professor. Not one of my favorite tasks...

7) 15:32
After more than 6 hours at home alone, Diego is demanding some attention.

8) 17:35
After some play time it's time for some profile picture taking. Diego looking serious, sleepy, and playful. :)

9) 18:08
Watered the plants. They, too, are one of Diego's favorite chewing objects, so the least I can do is give them their weekly water and some tender human care.

10) 18:30
Back at work for our colloquium. Being a faculty member requires my being there. Bummer.

11) 20:37
Back home, watching "The Chronicles ofNarnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". Haven't seen it before, so when I saw it was on I finally rectified that.

12) 21:01
Some tomato-feta salad to go with Narnia. Yummy!

And that's it for this month. Hope you enjoyed meeting Diego. See you next month when it's time for our annual Christmas season 12 of 12. W00t! :)

12 OF 12 (4) - SEPTEMBER 2009

This is a very late 12 of 12, given that today's already September 17th. But I have a pretty good excuse for my lateness: September 12th was my birthday and I spent it in London (from Sept.10 to 14) in London, visiting my friend Helen, a fellow 12 of 12'er. I got back late Monday night and was pretty beat on Tuesday and busy yesterday. So now I'm using my lunchbreak at work to do this post, before I leave for a 10-day trip to Japan tomorrow.

As always, this was all Chad's idea. All the other 12 of 12's from all over the world can be found in his blog.

The pictures aren't watermarked this month, due to lack of time. So please, don't snatch them.

Here we go!

1) 2:01 am

We spent the birthday eve at the Royal Albert Hall with two concerts; one by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and one by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. The second concert was beyond awesome!! After the concerts, we missed the last tubes (every station we went to was closed) and had to take two night buses back to Helen's place. This is on one of the buses. It didn't rain - this bus window just hasn't seen a car wash from the inside for quite a while...

2) 10:22 am

We took our time on my birthday morning. A look out of the window through the blinds reveals, that it's going to be a very good day weather-wise!

3) 1:17 pm

We went to Camden Market. It was crowded as always...

4) 1:17 pm

Fancy dragon on a building housing an oriental restaurant. I like the little sun flare in the top left corner!

5a) 1:19 pm

The Starbucks at Camden Market is celebrating its seventh birthday! Unfortunately, there was no exchange of a free drink from one birthday kid to the other. :( I got a very yummy birthday cupcake from Helen, though. :)

5b) 1:19 pm

This Starbucks was adopted by someone. By whom, I don't know...

6) 2:01 pm

An old tube station of which I forgot the name...

7) 2:08 pm

Waiting for the tube and playing around with camera settings to get the tube blurry and the rest in focus. Not bad for a first try, isn't it?

8) 2:50 pm

Loads of sea bass at Borough Market.

9) 3:02 pm

We took a wrong street while trying to get to the Menier Chocolate Factory, but at least I got this cool picture of three blue guys with instruments climbing up a building out of it. An ad for the Blue Man Group maybe?

10) 4:33 pm

We got to the Chocolate Factory in time, which is where the musical/cabaret show called "Forbidden Broadway" played. We saw the second to last performance, as the show closed on September 13th. The show was hilarious! I haven't laughed so much in quite a while...

11) 5:38 pm

There were lots of these little guys painted on a construction fence. More of them can be found in Helen's 12 of 12!

12) 7:03 pm

We had a very yummy birthday dinner at a Dim Sum place in Chinatown.

So, this was my 12 of 12, "birthday edition".

Next month will be another special 12 of 12! Two white kitties will come to live with me on October 11th, so you'll get to see their first full day at my home!

See you then! Bye-bye...
